Hello, last day of October - and such a glorious day here in the south of England! Blue skies, splendid autumn colours - you could say it's the best of autumn in a day. We have had several mornings in a row with heavy fog and the weekend was quite murky, so today's sun is very welcome. Thanks always to the artists and photographers featured in this week's mosaic - a kind of autumn colours in this, though I always like to keep them eclectic.....

This week - I am updating my shop on Wednesday at 2pm. I've just had a look through the work I have set aside for this week, and really want to keep it all - (but do need to sell! - so in the shop it shall go.....) I hope you enjoy taking a look.

I'll share a preview post tomorrow - showing a few more of the new paintings. Have a good start to your week and more soon.

new work

A look at just a few of the many and various artworks I have been working on this week. It's been a busy week, with concentrated painting most days. I have been making work for my own shop, The Edition Shop (online gallery) and another gallery. So this keeps me very busy. I am mostly painting or thinking about painting, a great deal of the time. And I am happy for this to be the case.

I've a good selection of work already collecting up and ready to add to my shop this coming Wednesday. There will be a variety of paintings and I hope you may enjoy seeing the selection.

Hello - another October Monday, and a chilly start to the week here - the trees are becoming bare and there's a nip in the air.... Thanks always to the artists and photographers featured in this mosaic. Please follow links to discover more.

I am not updating my shop this week - as I am busy working on new paintings. It's a lovely thing to be quite so busy, and so here I am making work for my shop and also for galleries. So I'm deep into the painting this week, and will hope to share a few new ones with you here at the weekend.

NEXT SHOP UPDATE: Wednesday 2nd November at the usual time of 2pm (UK).

My shop should be updated most weeks through November and into December. At the end of December and into the new year I'll be taking a short break. Of course I'll always let you know here when the shop is being updated, so please do check here (or on my shop site - see 'shop news').

This afternoon I just completed a painting titled 'Silver and Gold' - a gouache work. I think this one will be heading to The Edition Shop. They will have a new selection from me in November.

Have a good start to your week, stay warm and bright.....

new work

'Lanterns' - a larger and quite detailed gouache work on Fabriano paper

winter may wait

'winter may come' - gouache on Fabriano paper

Yes, definitely feeling autumnal..... I am making the most of all the colours around me for inspiration. I know sooner rather than later I may just move on to wintry landscapes, and am also making work with no exact season.... 'Lanterns' is quite a detailed work for me. I wished to convey a sense of moonlight, with lantern light, with a warm and friendly mood.....

a new tree

'a new tree'

this work is acrylics on paper. I like to make expressive, quite abstracted work with acrylics. I want it to look like paint with visible brush marks perhaps and to have a sweep of light about it. I think I've just about achieved my aim with this portrait. Emphasis is on colour and simple shapes.

These are just three of the (about a dozen) new artworks to be added to my shop tomorrow. I'll be updating at the usual time of 2pm (uk). Thanks always.

Hello, a happy October Monday to you - a bright, mild autumnal start to the week here.... It's sunny outside at the moment but I know the evening will be here soon, and we are now coming to the 'eating dinner with the lights on' time of year, again. It comes around again.... Thanks always to the artists and photographers for their images in this week's mosaic. Please do follow links to discover much more.

This week: I started the week by making a simple pledge - noting that I now have 10k+ followers on Instagram, I am most grateful - and so as a small gesture of gratitude I shall be donating 10% of shop sales this week to Amnesty International. The people that kindly follow my work are near and far, so I have chosen to give to an international charity that works for people everywhere it can. This is really just a humble thing to do, but something I want to do.

Thanks always for following me here! I realise blog reading might not be top of people's lists of things to do. But I hope you are enjoying what you see, and will continue to pop by. Writing here does allow me to explain a little more, give background to ideas, and reach people who might not be into Instagram, for example. We all have our social media preferences. I've not much time for Facebook, these days. I just don't like it so much. And there are so many hours in each day etc.....

I have been busy painting today and shall share new work with you tomorrow. Autumn is a big influence in my work and palette right now - but I am exploring other ideas too. I've also been working on new monochrome portraits.

More tomorrow - have a good start to your week.

my work in other places

I am delighted to have been asked to sell a selection of my paintings via The Edition, an online gallery, based in the UK. A selection of new paintings are now avaiable - a few have sold already. The Edition stocks work by a variety of excellent artists (and myself), and is very much worth a look.

I expect to be sending more work to The Edition in the months ahead.

Of course I am continuing to sell directly myself, via my own shop (updated most Wednesdays).

The Oriel Myrddin Gallery, in Carmarthen Wales, has a Makers Market coming up - starting October 22nd, featuring a variety of craft and art. I have a selection of framed and unframed smaller paintings included in this exhibition. If you are anywhere near this part of Wales please do visit!

This allows me to show you one of my smaller paintings (featured in the above exhibition) - framed.

Quickly photographed as I was packing up to send..... This is one of my smaller sized gouache paintings (12cm x 9cm) and has been framed in a 10inch by 8inch frame. You may see it has a thick mount border, lending the work a clean presentation. This is an example of how to frame - if you purchase an unframed painting from me, you have, of course, a variety of options. I know some people opt to frame my work in smaller frames, larger, or vintage frames, grouped together on a wall....

Have a good weekend

new work - brilliant trees

a seat by the trees

'a seat by the trees' - gouache on Fabriano paper (20cm x 15cm)

If you have been following my work recently you may have noted just how much I enjoy painting trees.... I enjoy the shapes, the colours and challenge of them. I've always been in awe of brilliant trees. It's now that I must admit how lacking in knowledge I can be, regarding their identification. That is something I am putting right - each time I go for a walk I seek to id the trees that I see, and there are so many. But locally, we have oak, birch, mountain ash, willow.....

two trees in a dish

'two trees in a dish' - acrylics on Fabriano paper (14cm x 11cm)

Trees again, but enjoying the idea of a 'world in a dish' - and yes I do like a good bonsai. I'm interested in the simplicity of Japanese ideas and design. Expressive and textured brush work.

These are just two of the (about a dozen) paintings that will be in my shop tomorrow - 2pm (uk time). Thanks always.

Hello, a good Monday to you - thanks always to the artists and photographers featured in this week's mosaic.... It's been a beautifully sunny if chilly start to the week here. A lovely autumn day, with plenty of blue sky. The leaves are slowly turning and falling, the days are 'drawing in'..... I remember hearing that phrase as a child and always imagined someone, with a lot of pencils in their fist, scribbling out the daylight.....

This week - I've been painting today, a new one called 'magpie walk' - I'll hope to have photographs to share with you tomorrow.... As you may imagine it is another in my ongoing series of woodland-inspired works. I'm hoping to get inky tomorrow and make some monoprint drawings.

My shop will be updated on Wednesday - usual time of 2pm. Thanks always for your interest, it is very much appreciated.

More tomorrow.... have a good start to your week.

Hurrah - I have a moment to share new work with you this weekend.....

Hello October - thanks to all the featured artists and photographers in this week's mosaic. It's been a bright, chilly, rather splendid autumn Monday here in the south of England....

My apologies for not blogging over the weekend - as I try to do at least most weeks - but I did have a busy one. I spent time painting, as well as visiting a local market - and it was my sister's birthday yesterday. Today would have been my grandfather's birthday. My grandfather enjoyed creative woodworking in his retirement from an engineering career. His sheer determination to teach himself skills and get better at them - I hope that's something I continue to learn from. I remember asking my Grandad to make me a paper-making frame, and he went ahead and made me a beautifully varnished oak frame with mesh, just as I had described - though he was completely baffled by my interest in making paper! And although I spent many hours making paper, and enjoying the process very much, I no longer make paper these days. But I know how, and I have learned from that creative experimenting.

These days I have less time for trying out new crafts (to be honest what is there I have not tried: candlemaking?). I am enjoying my painting and drawing very much. This morning I sent work to an online gallery and they will soon have a selection of my work available. More details coming soon. I will be continuing to sell via my shop too, of course. The next update is this week, Wednesday, at the usual time of 2pm.

Have a good start to your week - a new work post coming tomorrow......
