Day Six - stitch week

A gentle lady - cloth doll

Going back to my doll-making roots - I have designed and stitched this rather elegant, folk-inspired doll. She is made from a combination of linen and cotton fabrics, has hand dyed wool hair and is stuffed with wool. Gentle lady is about 35 cm tall. I have made her a small linen pillow (the linen dyed with onion skins). She has striped legs and a Liberty print skirt with tuck detailing. She wears various vintage mother of pearl buttons on her garments and antique trim around her bodice and sleeve caps. There is a 'visible mend' on one sleeve (see photo) for a vintage look. There are many hand stitch details - as the focus here really is hand stitch. Many hours of work went into creating this gentle character.

She will be available in my shop at 12 noon, Thursday 30th April.
