autumn windows

I am a little ahead of the season - it isn't quite full-on autumn here just yet. Of course I have many years of experience when it comes to staring out of the window, especially at autumn colours that mesmerise the viewer as leaves swirl about on a windy day.....

It has been a little while since I painted window views - and to be honest I enjoy painting this style of composition no matter the season depicted. My summer windows were lush and full of musical swirls of green (or that's what was going on in my head at the time). These autumn landscapes are more brooding, the colours complex and contrasting with the still life objects. I wanted to keep the sill arrangements relatively simple. Yet the introduction of dried leaves, acorns etc... brings the outdoors indoors, of course.
