NEW WORK - WINTER SCENES
a winter table
I am enjoying this series of monochrome gardens so much.... Each one seems to become my favourite, but this one I am particularly happy with. It took quite a bit of thinking over. How to get the perspective right, but to paint it in my own way.... I wanted the table to be the focal point, rather than have the figure take centre stage, and whilst she has a presence I feel I have got the balance the way I wanted it.... I am certainly looking forward to painting more monochrome portraits / landscapes in the future.
a winter storyteller
this small portrait in stitch has a lot of detail, as always. I really just let myself get into the whole story of it - the folk art feel of the piece, with tiny figures doing their thing. I had to think through this one carefully, getting the balance of detail and negative space - there are stories within stories here. A small piece like this take time. This was a busy day's work, with some thinking through beforehand. I don't draw out the designs before I stitch because that doesn't work for me, I can't get the right flow of stitching, so I sit down with ideas and allow the ideas some influence, but ultimately I see who or what emerges.
And another embroidery piece - an angelic figure in the ongoing series
These works will be included in my shop update tomorrow.... I will also have a larger-than-usual selection of tiny landscapes, with some tiny-tiny ones..... I have just two updates before I take a break until the new year, tomorrow's and then again next week. So if you are looking to buy for Christmas then please do make a note of the time: 2pm UK time and take a look...... thanks always
