I have not shared my sketchbooks here in some time - so here is a sketchbook post....
My sketchbooks have evolved over time and continue to do so. These days I enjoy creating something more akin to scrapbooks, though they are carefully assembled pages - the putting together of things is an art form in itself.... I spent a great deal of time working in my sketchbooks and to me, if I am honest, they are the most important thing that I work on, visually. They mean so much to me and help me in countless ways. Not only are they a visual record of ideas they are a journal, reminding me of what I was interested in at a certain time. They allow me to put different media together. I don't have to feel pressured or precious. My sketchbooks are a personal space and not something that has to look good on a wall. There are no limitations except the physical of being able to turn a page etc... Often I will add something to a sketchbook for its quality of marks rather than because it is 'good'. I don't judge pages on anything other than that they appeal to my eye as a whole.
I'll be working on my sketchbooks a little more over the coming days. This week there will be no shop update - I plan to update next week. I need some time to myself and time to work toward new ideas.
